I'm going on a mission trip!

Hi, my dearly loved friends and family!

I wanted to share some exciting news with you… I am going on a mission trip to Nicaragua this summer! I’ll be leaving the comfort of my family and home from July 21 – July 29 to help with Project Chacocente!

What is Project Chacocente?

Project Chacocente moves families from the city dump of Managua, Nicaragua to the clean air and fertile soil of rural Masaya, where the people learn skills for living independently. The families sign a contract promising to "work" with the project for five years, at which time they will receive the house they build and about two acres of land. Working with us means learning to read and write, to build, to farm, to solve problems, to govern themselves, to be more knowledgeable parents, and to start a small business.

The goal is to reintroduce the families into a society in which they have not participated in many years, and to teach them the skills they need to be self-sufficient. Literally, the project takes people out of one culture and shows them how to live in another.

This is a non-profit Chrisitian organization bringing hope to people who literally live on a dump. I’ll be working the land, painting, constructing, and teaching the Bible the best I can.

We are also taking a medical missions team with us. Dr. Jon Bird is leading this portion of the trip. Our medical team will set up a free clinic and deliver healthcare to the people. This is going to be awesome!

Obviously, this takes cash. It needs lots of prayer more than cash. Currently there are 26 of us going on the mission. We are each asked to raise $1600 a piece to cover our expenses and also to help pay for medical supplies.

I want to ask you to pray. Just pray. Pray as often as you can for this trip. If God asks you to worshipfully give, I would greatly appreciate it. But do it only if God leads.

One awesome note I want to mention. On Sunday July 27th at The Bridge I am going to do a live interview in service from Nicaragua. I feel that God is going to have something special to say on that day. Keep it in your prayers.

In God’s Love,
Ben Durbin

Steven Curtis Chapman

My heart has been going out to the Chapman family this week. I've been staring at my daughters wondering how I would respond to a tragedy such as what they have faced. It is no secret around my parts that I have an obsession with SCC's music. I selfishly want him to write the best album ever now... but I would be satisfied if he never sang again. It is a blessing to all to see/read about their faith in response to this tragedy. His songs have helped me, inspired me, challenged me, and made me laugh. He's had like 41 number 1 hits! Send up some prayers for the entire family this month.

How could you not like SCC after seeing these videos? He had sweet hair back then.

HOPE

We are starting a new sermon series this week at The Bridge. It is called "HOPE." I have sensed in our celebration that there are some folks tied up in chains and a bit down. I'm not really sure why. Maybe it is because of gas prices and financial stuff. Maybe it is because I let them get comfortable. Maybe they are facing a giant that is adversely affecting their family... Whatever it is, I've sensed that they need hope. So we are spending the next four weeks talking about why we have hope.

Week 1: The Genesis of Hope - Tim
Week 2: Hopeless
Week 3: Hopeful
Week 4: Hope-filled

It is my desire that our Bridge Community will go outside the doors of our church and bring hope to the PARKLAND area as a result of this series. Join me in prayer for the next four weeks.

-ben

P.S. I BLOG everyday at thebridgechurch.blogspot.com if you want more updates.
P.S.S. I am addicted to LOST and I CAN NOT WAIT FOR TONIGHT!!!!

Video of Halle

Becky wants me to make sure and tell you that she's not zonked out anymore.

Jaundice

The pediatrician came in this morning and let us know that Halle is a bit jaundice and that they will need to test her again in the morning. Sad news for my cell family I know. They were getting pumped about us coming home today! Keep Halle Reese in your prayers! BTW - Becky is zonked.

Good day. A few more pics

Halle - day 2 in the morning

This morning I am feeling like a new woman. Yesterday I was kinda out of it most of the day. Ben is the most awesome daddy. He changed every diaper and did all the work with Halle except feed her. I couldn't ask for a better daddy and husband. He also took great care of me and never complained. ( I guess I'll forgive him for that picture he just posted of me this morning!)

Halle has been real good most the night. She's a lot like Brylee in regards to her eating. I'm beginning to think she is confused. Maybe she thinks she's supposed to hoard her food for the winter, or maybe she thinks she's in a contest-think of that little guy in the hot dog eating contest. She keeps kicking all her covers off. The nurses keep trying to swaddle her real tight and before you know it, she's got the blanket half off. The last time they brought her back from the nursery she barely had the blanket wrapped around her. I guess she told them :D

Up @ 5:00 AM --- Coffee!!!
